Poor, poor East Coast.  We get nothing nearly as big as Comic-Con.  Sadly, that means that this news isn’t first-hand, but it does mean that the (currently) first title under our series sidebar will be getting more posts:  Shonen Jump (the American one) will be taking care of Bakuman AND will be publishing it in their Shonen Jump magazine in 2010.

By the creative duo of Death Note, Bakuman is about two kids who decide to make manga together, and there’s a girl who wants to be a voice actress and one of the guys proposes to her (ah, high school…).  And there’s some DN references in there, too.  (If you read my first post about Bakuman, you’d know that I don’t actually like this title too much)

Bakuman has been running since 2008, and is still going strong over in Japan.  This news seems to have been going over well with American fans so far.  I’d personally like to see how popular Bakuman gets.  Maybe they’ll start making live-action movies like how they did with Death Note (can you picture that?  or am I the only one who thinks a movie about mangaka would actually be made?)

Ohba and Obata, genius mangaka duo responsible for Death Note, have, as some of you already may already know, joined forces once again to bring you a new manga, Bakuman, about a duo who want to create manga together.  If you want to read the first chapter of it (in ENGLISH) then now’s your chance.  And it’s not illegal!

But how does one accomplish such a feat?  Just follow the instructions on the bottom of this page, and you’ll be reading Ohba and Obata’s newest story in English no time!  And if you prefer French or German, you can choose them on this page.

I personally am not too fond of Bakuman.  It’s an interesting read but not something I’d personally like to buy in volume form.  Although I must say that page 42 was pretty epic~  I’d post a picture, but the manga reader program doesn’t allow screencaps. (Also, just for the record, don’t screencap at all while you’re reading the manga, when I did it prevented my computer from copying anything onto the clipboard until I restarted it.  Really annoying)

I’d say that Bakuman is worth a read, but you’d better be quick about it because all of the manga will be taken off on August 31st.  In the meantime, happy reading!  And please feel free to comment!
